Because of the horrific earthquake that occurred in Haiti on Jan 12, 2010, The Department of Homeland Security granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti for the period of 18 months. What that means is that if you are from Haiti and have been in the United States since January 12, 2010 you can get a permission to work legally in the United States and a permission to stay here legally for 18 months.
